Cobol Developer – Legacy Systems & Mainframe Integration

Location : Lisbon (Hybrid : 2–3 days onsite per week)

Type : Full-time

Languages : English (B2 minimum) – French (B2) is a strong plus!

Eligibility : Candidates must hold a valid work permit for Portugal

Position Overview :

Are you a Cobol Developer who enjoys working with critical legacy systems in dynamic, enterprise-scale environments? We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join our IT team in Lisbon. You’ll play a key role in maintaining and enhancing vital infrastructure built on Cobol , JCL , CICS , DB2 , and other mainframe technologies.

This is a hybrid role, giving you the flexibility to balance remote and on-site collaboration while contributing to the stability and evolution of core banking or industrial systems.

Requirements :

Solid hands-on experience as a Cobol Developer , ideally in enterprise environments

Deep familiarity with CICS , MQ , CFT , MVS , and Shell scripting

Proficiency in JCL , DB2 , and mainframe debugging techniques

Exposure to Jira , Confluence , Eclipse , and CI / CD tools (Jenkins, Git)

Strong analytical mindset and excellent problem-solving skills

Team player with good communication skills and a proactive approach

Language skills : English : Minimum B2; French : B2 is a strong asset

Key Responsabilities :

Develop and maintain Cobol applications supporting essential business functions

Design and implement robust MQ and CFT integrations for secure data transmission

Write and manage JCL scripts for automated job scheduling and execution

Debug and optimize legacy code to ensure reliability and performance

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Analysts, Testers, Project Managers) to gather requirements and translate them into technical designs

Tune DB2 queries and ensure database consistency and performance

Contribute to team knowledge sharing and support junior developers where needed
