The position

As General Manager for Portugal you will, together with your team, set the dreams and the vision and oversee the entire country organisation. You will represent the interests of Novo Nordisk and patients within Portugal, be responsible to meet and exceed the P&L by developing mid to long term strategic plans, evolve the organisational culture and develop people capabilities that are fit for future.

You will lead by example and through your empowering leadership inspire the organization towards driving change within customer centricity, digitalization, and sustainability. You are expected to shape and execute organisational strategy, develop strategic partnerships and relationships with external parties, authorities, industry, customers, and suppliers in the market to drive profitable and sustainable short / long term growth.

You will be based in Lisbon, Portugal and be a member of the senior leadership team of Business Area South & West, reporting to the Corporate Vice President of the business area.

We expect our general manager to believe that there is ‘No business without ethics’ and always ensure compliance at all levels, In accordance with Novo Nordisk WAY.

Main Responsibilities

Securing market share, operating profit and continued sales growth.

Obtaining and maintaining market access for the product portfolio, as well as bringing new innovations to the market.

Identifying and foreseeing potential business challenges as well as market trends on regular basis and preparing relevant plans to address them effectively.

Building and maintaining strong trusting relationships with external stakeholders including key Medical, Payer and Commissioning authorities.

Driving the performance culture and winning mind-set by promoting on-going performance dialogs based on trust and focused on meaningful and bold ambitions.

Ensuring that local organisational structure / systems / processes / people are aligned with the external reality / trends.

Ensuring that all the affiliate’s activities are in compliance with Novo Nordisk internal policies, local acts, legal requirements and ethical standards.

Set the strategy and supervise the external relationships with key stakeholders including pricing authorities.

Supervise the negotiation of prices / reimbursement for all products.

Represents Novo Nordisk in front of local authorities and key opinion leaders for all therapeutic areas.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have a relevant graduate level degree, e.g., Pharmacy, Science or Business Administration with at least 10 years’ experience in pharmaceutical industry and minimum of 8 years of management experience, leading functions such as sales, marketing, business development or finance with proven success in multiple settings (affiliate / region / HQ). Furthermore, a minimum of 8 years in a people management position leading and developing high performing, cross functional teams, preferably managing leaders.

Since interactions with external stakeholders are of high importance a strong public affairs understanding is highly beneficial.

We are looking for a General Manager who has an entrepreneurial mindset and frontline focus, who leads, inspires, and engages through role modelling and impactful communication, and prioritizes compliance and ethics. We like you to be bold and ambitious with a ‘can-do’ attitude, innovative, and good cultural understanding. Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Proficiency in Portuguese or Spanish is an advantage.
