Mid / Senior Software Engineer – Remote (Portugal-based only)

Location : Remote within Portugal

Salary : Up to €90,000 depending on experience

Team : Collaborative and senior-led (team size : 6–8 engineers)

A well-funded, mission-led tech scale-up is hiring for multiple Mid to Senior Software Engineers to help build a safer internet through AI-driven content moderation. This is a fully remote opportunity for candidates based in Portugal, offering flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to work on genuinely meaningful problems at scale.

The company is already delivering cutting-edge moderation tools used by online platforms to detect and prevent harmful content. With a recent injection of funding and a strong commitment to growth, they're now expanding their engineering team in Portugal as part of their next stage of development.

What You’ll Do

As an experienced engineer, you'll contribute to core backend systems while collaborating with a tight-knit, distributed team. The role is broad and hands-on — you’ll be working across backend services, infrastructure, and, occasionally, the frontend.

Depending on your skills and interests, you’ll join one of two small teams focused either on :

  • Building and maintaining B2B APIs and asynchronous content processing pipelines
  • Developing internal tools and customer-facing UI / reporting platforms

The stack includes :

  • Python , FastAPI , Kafka , PostgreSQL , OpenSearch
  • Infrastructure as code with Terraform on AWS
  • React-based frontend (occasionally)
  • 24 / 7 support responsibilities (on-call rota being formalised, with additional pay per shift)

    • What They’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Strong backend engineering background (language-agnostic; Python experience is helpful but not required)
  • Track record of ownership, architectural thinking, and autonomous delivery
  • Comfortable working in remote-first, asynchronous teams
  • Fluent in English and based in Portugal

    • Bonus if you have :

  • Experience with stream processing, asynchronous systems, or real-time infrastructure
  • Familiarity with AI, ML or LLM-powered systems
  • Hands-on knowledge of AWS, Terraform, or OpenSearch
