Role Overview
As MAS Development Manager you will own the end-to-end delivery of Planet’s Merchant Application Suite (MAS). Reporting to the Head of Engineering and working hand-in-hand with the PMO, Product Owners and Scrum Masters, you will translate business ambition into a reliable, scalable and secure product roadmap. You will lead a distributed team of software engineers, shape the technical architecture, and ensure every release meets the highest standards of quality, performance and maintainability while keeping stakeholders fully informed.
What you will do :
Project planning & governance – Provide rapid, high-level estimates for change requests coming from the Solution Review Board; assign development capacity to approved projects; flag any variance versus baseline plans to the PMO and Scrum Masters.
People leadership – Hire, coach and inspire a high-performing MAS development team; set clear objectives, run performance reviews and foster a culture of continuous learning and ownership.
Requirements & analysis – Partner with business stakeholders to crystallise needs into a high-level solution, refine them with Product Owners, and convert them into actionable technical stories.
Architecture & design – Define and evolve the MAS architecture, technology stack and coding standards; review design artefacts to guarantee alignment with functional and non-functional requirements; make pragmatic technology choices that balance speed with long-term scalability.
Engineering excellence – Champion best-of-breed SDLC practices; run rigorous code reviews, enforce quality gates, and remove delivery blockers so the team can ship clean, secure code.
Quality assurance – Oversee unit and integration test strategies; track defects, drive root-cause analysis and ensure lessons learned feed back into the process.
Release & support – Coordinate production deployments with BAU teams under ITSM controls; own post-implementation reviews, production support triage and continuous improvement of the MAS platform.
Stakeholder communication – Provide clear, timely status updates to executives and business partners; manage expectations, surface risks early and maintain trust across functions.
Who you are :
A hands-on engineering leader with proven experience managing application development teams, ideally within payments, fintech or mission-critical enterprise software.
Deep understanding of Java, MySQL, Linux and modern software-development tooling; comfortable discussing cloud architecture, CI / CD and security best practices.
Fluent in both Agile / Scrum delivery and traditional project-governance frameworks; able to reconcile time-boxed sprints with portfolio-level planning.
Track record of hiring, developing and retaining top engineering talent across multiple geographies.
Excellent stakeholder-management and communication skills—you translate technical complexity into clear business language for executives, and vice-versa for developers.
Strong analytical mindset : capable of turning high-level business goals into scalable technical solutions and making sound prioritisation trade-offs.
Passionate about continuous improvement, quality and operational excellence; experienced in driving post-mortem RCAs and embedding the learnings.
Comfortable working in fast-moving, growth-oriented environments where priorities can shift quickly and autonomy is valued.
