Senior Accountant

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our finance team in Braga. This role will be responsible for accounting and administrative activities across both Portugal and the United Kingdom , requiring strong knowledge of Portuguese accounting and tax regulations, as well as the ability to work in an international environment. The position starts with a 15-month contract, with the opportunity to become permanent.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage accounting activities for Portugal and the UK
• Ensure compliance with SNC and support UK accounting requirements (UK GAAP)
• Perform monthly and annual closings
• Prepare and review tax and statutory filings and ensure compliance with Portuguese (VAT, IES/DA, Modelo 22, SAF-T PT) and UK tax obligations
• Liaise with tax authorities and external advisors in PT and the UK
• Execute payroll processing for Portugal and the UK, including coordination with external payroll providers
• Reconcile and analyse general ledger accounts
• Contribute to process improvements and standardisation (e.g. invoice automation)

Requirements

• Certified Accountant in Portugal (Contabilista Certificado)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting
• Strong knowledge of SNC
• Advanced level of English (spoken and written)
• Basic knowledge of UK GAAP or willingness to learn
• Hands-on experience with financial software (SAP, Primavera, Xero, or similar)
• Strong Excel skills
• Ability to work independently across multiple jurisdictions

Nice to Have

• Previous experience managing multi-country accounting
• Experience in international or multinational environments
• Exposure to group reporting or UK entities
