We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our finance team in Braga. This role will be responsible for accounting and administrative activities across both Portugal and the United Kingdom , requiring strong knowledge of Portuguese accounting and tax regulations, as well as the ability to work in an international environment. The position starts with a 15-month contract, with the opportunity to become permanent.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounting activities for Portugal and the UK
- Ensure compliance with SNC and support UK accounting requirements (UK GAAP)
- Perform monthly and annual closings
- Prepare and review tax and statutory filings and ensure compliance with Portuguese (VAT, IES/DA, Modelo 22, SAF-T PT) and UK tax obligations
- Liaise with tax authorities and external advisors in PT and the UK
- Execute payroll processing for Portugal and the UK, including coordination with external payroll providers
- Reconcile and analyse general ledger accounts
- Contribute to process improvements and standardisation (e.g. invoice automation)
Requirements
- Certified Accountant in Portugal (Contabilista Certificado)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting
- Strong knowledge of SNC
- Advanced level of English (spoken and written)
- Basic knowledge of UK GAAP or willingness to learn
- Hands-on experience with financial software (SAP, Primavera, Xero, or similar)
- Strong Excel skills
- Ability to work independently across multiple jurisdictions
Nice to Have
- Previous experience managing multi-country accounting
- Experience in international or multinational environments
- Exposure to group reporting or UK entities
