Overview
Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Our customers include leading public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders in many sectors. The company is a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, with 1200+ colleagues in 75+ countries and very few office-based roles. Teams meet two to four times yearly in person, in locations around the world. The company is founder-led, profitable, and growing.
We are hiring engineering managers who are passionate about operational systems, open source technologies and cutting-edge hardware to lead engineering teams to enable and optimize Ubuntu for the latest x86, ARM, RISC-V, s390x and POWER systems. We partner with the world's leading silicon vendors to optimise Ubuntu on their latest platforms, integrating next-generation features and performance enhancements while ensuring a common operating experience for their users.
Engineering Managers should be outstanding developers themselves. They should be comfortable reviewing a patch or a software design spec. You will drive healthy engineering practices, documentation, quality and performance optimisations, and lead your team to deliver high-quality design and code. An Engineering Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance, developing engineering talent, representing your team and product from a technical perspective, and driving collaboration with other teams and customers.
You will have the opportunity to influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with your team on strategy and execution.
