Life at Lisbon Tech Hub
In 2022, QuintoAndar opened its first European tech hub in Lisbon, aiming to tap into a new tech ecosystem, attract top talents, offer international opportunities for Brazilian employees, and enhance cultural diversity. The Lisbon hub hosts a team of engineers, designers, product managers, and data scientists, with plans to grow further. You will collaborate with teams primarily based in Brazil, contributing to global projects.
Location
Remote-first policy: work from anywhere in Portugal. In-person collaboration is possible at our Lisbon office in the historic center.

About the role: Search & Recommendations
We are hiring for the Search & Recommendations team, which focuses on scalable, high-performance systems to enhance user discovery through advanced search, discovery, and personalized recommendations. We leverage technologies such as search engines, vector databases, and machine learning ranking models to optimize information retrieval and drive impact for users.
We are seeking candidates with:
Experience in search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, geospatial search, vector search, multi-stage ranking)
Experience with recommendation systems or discovery platforms
A strong understanding of scalable system design and performance optimization
A passion for solving complex problems in information retrieval and personalization
Technical Lead Manager (TLM) at QuintoAndar
The TLM role is designed for Senior+ Software Engineers who balance technical leadership with people management. TLMs define technical strategy, drive high-quality implementation, and support their team’s growth. They typically oversee a smaller number of direct reports and have a focused management scope, while remaining on the technical career path with opportunities to advance to Staff+ roles or broader leadership duties.
This role is ideal for candidates who excel in hands-on technical work and guiding teams to peak performance.
Responsibilities as TLM
Lead the technical implementation of projects, delivering scalable, maintainable solutions
Grow, coach, and manage a team of 2-5 software engineers
Define and uphold an excellent engineering culture while guiding design and execution
Collaborate across teams to drive alignment and timely delivery
Additional Expectations:
Act as a technical reference and leader for your team
Contribute to code, code reviews, and architecture discussions
Partner with Product, Design, and Data teams to define strategy
Recruit and develop exceptional talent
Requirements
Programming & Databases: Fluency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Kotlin) and experience with databases or search engines (Elasticsearch is a plus)
Scalable Systems: Design, build, and maintain large, distributed systems and RESTful APIs
Best Practices: Software maintainability, CI/CD, test automation, and troubleshooting
Experience: 5+ years in software development
Languages: Professional fluency in English (Portuguese a plus)
You'll Stand Out If You Have
Expertise in Search and Recommendations, including end-to-end experiences
Proficiency with Elasticsearch, vector search, geospatial search
Experience designing multi-stage pipelines for search and recommendations
Knowledge of AWS, containers, and high-availability services
Experience leading cross-team collaborations and mentoring engineers
Track record of building products for large-scale distributed systems
Strong communication and leadership skills
