So we don’t fill roles, we slow down just enough to ask: “What problem are you really trying to solve?”

Then we redesign the role, and only then do we search.

What this job actually is

If you’re looking for a stable process, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for comfort, definitely not.

This is a job about critical thinking and judgment, about having genuine curiosity and great conversations.

You’ll need to have the courage to say what others won’t and you’ll spend your time talking to people you don’t know - and understanding them fast.

If you can work with challenging clients who think they know what they need, in order to have you define and design roles that don’t yet exist, then you may excel.

Where you make the difference

Most recruiters match CVs to job descriptions, you won’t.

You’ll sit in the ambiguity before the search even begins and say:

“This is not the hire you think you need.”

You’ll look for learning agility over experience, trajectory over titles and look for signals others ignore, because you’ll be translating confusion into clarity (that’s where all the value is created).

The AI shift (read this twice)

AI can already find candidates faster than you, write better outreach strategies than you and even generate cleaner reports than you!

But you’ll need to ask better questions, see patterns others miss, build trust without shortcuts and assess people not for what they’ve done - but for what they can become.

While others use AI to move faster, you’ll use it to think better.

What makes this job hard

- You’ll be on the phone. A lot! - You’ll manage expectations, constantly. - You’ll have to choose, every day, who deserves your time. - You’ll say “no” more than “yes”. - You’ll need to give honest feedback to people who didn’t get the role. - You’ll keep learning: tools, ideas, technologies, whether you feel like it or not. - And most of the time, you won’t have a clear answer. - If you need structure, certainty or comfort, this will feel exhausting.

Where you might come from

There’s no perfect path, but patterns help.

You’ve probably worked in a B2B environment where understanding people mattered.

You’ve had led and had exposure to business development, not just execution.

Maybe you’ve been in:

- executive search or recruitment; - consulting; - banking; - legal or any other professional service company; - or even a fast-growing company where things weren’t fully defined.

You might have studied business, management or engineering, but more importantly, you’ve learned how to think.

You likely have:

- a network you’ve built (not inherited) - comfort speaking with senior people (in multiple languages) - the ability to move between strategy and action without friction
