We are currently seeking an Accountant to join our team, working remotely from Portugal.

Role Overview:

The Accountant will play an important role within the Finance team, mainly focusing on month-end close, monthly and weekly financial reporting, and general ledger accounting. This role involves preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling balance sheet and bank accounts, producing management reporting, and ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant financial regulations.

You will be part of a collaborative team based across different regions, supporting the Irish business remotely from Portugal.

The position is ideal for an organised, detail-oriented accounting professional with strong analytical skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Month-End Close

- Owning the month-end close checklist and ensuring all deliverables are completed to deadline. - Preparing and posting journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, payroll, and depreciation. - Running reports on unprocessed invoices and open POs and posting the related accruals. - Posting intercompany journals and reconciling intercompany balances. - Preparing balance sheet reconciliations with supporting documentation. - Reviewing AP and AR cutoffs with the transactional team to ensure completeness.

Monthly Reporting

- Preparing the monthly management accounts pack (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow). - Analysing variances against budget and prior periods and drafting commentary. - Preparing supporting schedules for revenue, costs, and key balance sheet lines. - Supporting the preparation of Board and group reporting.

Weekly Reporting and Banking

- Entering bank transactions and reconciling bank accounts on a weekly basis. - Preparing the weekly cash position and short-term cash flow forecast. - Producing weekly flash reports and KPIs, including aged debtors and creditors summaries.

Accounting Records and Compliance

- Maintaining the general ledger and the fixed asset register, including depreciation runs. - Preparing VAT returns and other statutory filings for review. - Supporting the annual audit with schedules and documentation requests. - Maintaining process documentation for the accounting function.

Other Responsibilities

- Assisting with ad hoc finance projects and tasks.

Key Competencies & Experience:

Requirements

- A degree or diploma in Finance, Accounting, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - Part-qualified or qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent) is an advantage. - Minimum five years' accounting experience, including month-end close and management reporting, preferably in a multinational shared services office. - Strong knowledge of double-entry accounting, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations. - Experience with financial software and ERP systems (e.g. Sage). - Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. - Experience using AI tools in day-to-day work, including AI agents working within Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel and Word), is highly valued. - Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills. - Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. - Fluency in English. - Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Availability to travel to Ireland for short periods of time.
