📍 Location: Lisbon, Porto, Fundão or Coimbra, Portugal

💼 Work Model: Hybrid — 2 to 3 days per week in the office

🕓 Seniority: Mid/Senior (3–4+ years in Software Engineering or Backend Development)

💲Rate Between €3500 - 4000 RV or Unipessoal (gross value) OR €2100–€2300/month gross salary + benefits (employment contract)

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an AI Engineer with a strong Software Engineering background, preferably in C#/.NET Backend Development, who has transitioned or is transitioning into Artificial Intelligence.

The ideal candidate combines solid backend development skills with practical experience integrating LLMs, AI-powered features, and modern AI technologies into software applications.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and APIs using C#/.NET.
• Develop and integrate AI-powered features, LLMs, and intelligent services into existing applications.
• Explore and implement AI Agents, Agentic AI workflows, and automation solutions.
• Design cloud-based architectures, database integrations, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Apply software engineering best practices, design patterns, and AI-assisted development tools.
• Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders in Agile environments, ensuring quality, performance, and maintainability.

Requirements

• 3–4+ years of professional experience in Software Engineering or Backend Development, preferably with C#/.NET/.NET Core.
• Strong hands-on experience developing backend services, APIs, and scalable applications.
• Practical experience or demonstrated exposure to AI development, LLM integration, or AI-powered applications.
• Good understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices.
• Experience with cloud technologies, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledge of SQL, data modelling, relational/non-relational databases, CI/CD, and version control.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools, coding agents, Git, Jira, Confluence, and Agile methodologies.
• Relevant technical degree, strong analytical skills, and fluent English.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Generative AI, Agentic AI, AI Agents, and RAG architectures.
• Knowledge of Semantic Kernel, Microsoft AutoGen, LangChain, or similar frameworks.
• Experience with Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, and AI model orchestration.
• Knowledge of prompt engineering, fine-tuning, Python, or multi-agent architectures.
• Experience deploying AI-powered applications into production.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are particularly interested in professionals following a career progression such as .NET Developer → Senior Backend Developer → AI/GenAI Engineer.

Extensive experience as a dedicated AI Engineer is not mandatory. However, candidates should demonstrate a genuine technical transition towards AI through practical projects involving LLMs, Generative AI, AI integrations, or intelligent agents.
