Experienced Data Engineer – Long Term Contract (Remote, Portugal-based)

📍 Porto District, Portugal | 💼 Contract | 🌍 Remote

About the Role

We are seeking an Experienced Data Engineer to join a long-term contract engagement on a high-impact data project. You will design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure and pipelines that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.

This role requires strong expertise in Python, SQL, Azure Data Factory, Databricks , and cloud-based ETL / ELT processes. Occasional travel may be required (0–15%).

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build data models to support Data Science, Business Intelligence, and downstream datasets.
  • Develop APIs and data products to integrate data across systems and processes.
  • Monitor and maintain data pipelines, addressing issues proactively.
  • Collaborate with business partners and development teams to ensure requirements are clearly defined and implemented.
  • Partner with leadership to coordinate cross-team and cross-function initiatives.
  • Implement best practices for data quality, performance, and reliability.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer or Data Quality Engineer in fast-paced environments.
  • Expert in SQL and Python , with experience organizing Python-based projects.
  • Extensive experience with Azure Data Factory , Databricks , ETL / ELT pipelines, and Azure Cloud services .
  • Strong understanding of data modeling methodologies (Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault).
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with developers, partners, and leadership.
  • Nice to Have

  • Experience with automated unit and integration testing for data projects.
  • Background in Business Intelligence or Business Analysis .
  • Experience with IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Familiarity with Tableau or other visualization tools.
  • Experience with CI / CD automation (e.g., GitLab).
  • Knowledge of batch and streaming pipelines , and 3rd-party data ingestion via APIs.
  • Experience integrating data platforms with observability tools .

  • Long-term contract with potential for extension.

  • Fully remote within Portugal (other locations may be considered depending on project).
