The opportunity

Our Envision Medical Communications (EMC) team is seeking a dynamic and experienced Portfolio Director & Team Lead to oversee scientific strategy and delivery across a portfolio of client accounts. In this expert-level role, you'll co-lead account activities with your Account Management counterpart, guiding scientific direction, resourcing, and project management within a single therapeutic area or across multiple pharma clients.

You'll apply deep therapeutic knowledge and market insight to shape impactful content that aligns with client strategy, while also identifying growth opportunities across your portfolio. As a people leader, you'll directly or indirectly manage a talented team of 7–11 scientific writers, supporting their development and supporting high-quality delivery across all projects.

Role responsibilities

Account Strategy and Planning :

  • Partner with Account Management to provide scientific and strategic leadership across assigned accounts.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and external experts, contributing to scientific and strategic discussions.

Content Development :

  • Maintain deep expertise in relevant therapeutic areas, client products, competitors, market trends, and compliance standards.
  • Create scientifically accurate, compliant, and compelling content tailored to audience needs and aligned with client goals.
  • Lead the development of scientific strategy and communication planning.
  • Support and present at client meetings, including onsite events and presentations.
  • Team Leadership & Development :

  • Support the well-being, development, and performance of direct reports and broader scientific teams.
  • Mentor junior managers and writers, ensuring successful onboarding and ongoing development.
  • Lead or support recruitment and resource planning based on portfolio needs.
  • Project & Operational Management :

  • Ensure adherence to client and internal processes, SOPs, and quality standards.
  • Manage personal and team workloads, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Contribute to project scoping, timelines, budgets, and milestone tracking.
  • Monitor project profitability and manage out-of-scope changes and negotiations with external vendors.
  • Business Development

  • Lead the development of scientific content for proposals and contribute to client pitches.
  • Identify new project opportunities and support organic growth within accounts.
  • Stay current with industry trends and EPG offerings to proactively recommend solutions that drive client value.
  • Do you have what we are looking for?

    Skills & expertise

  • Advanced degree in life sciences, clinical, or related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
  • 10+ years of medical communications, HEOR, or market access experience, ideally across both publications and non-publication deliverables.
  • Deep knowledge of at least one therapeutic area, with the ability to quickly adapt to others.
  • Skilled at interpreting and clearly communicating complex scientific and clinical data across various formats and audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, global medical communications programs.
  • Salary range (for US roles only) - $141,100 - $183,500

    The provided salary range reflects the potential base salary for this role in the United States,considering factors such as your professional and academic experience, training, and role responsibilities. In addition to a competitive base salary, we offer an attractive total compensation benefits package designed to reward and support our people.
